Moving home can be stressful, but it does not need to be! Here are some tips to help make sure that your home move is as easy and stress-free as possible:

1. Get rid of loads of stuff – This is your perfect opportunity to get rid of the things you don’t use or need. Do you really need that T-shirt you bought five years ago that has holes in it? Now is the time to be brutal. You want your home to be elegant, comfortable, and relaxing. The last thing you want to do is simply move clutter from your old home to your new home.

2. Choose a removal company with care - The importance of choosing a removal company with care cannot be ignored. There are lots of residential movers available today, but you need to make sure that the company you select has many years of experience and a great reputation in the industry too. You should take the time to read reviews that have been left by people who have used the company in question before, as they can be very telling.

3. Use egg cartons for the transportation of your jewelry – Jewelry seems to be one of the worst things to transport. We have all been there; you go on holiday, and when you open your suitcase, your jewelry is all tangled. It is baffling to imagine how it got into such a knotted state! To ensure this does not happen when moving home, utilize egg cartons to transport your jewelry with ease. Tape them shut to make sure nothing falls out. You can also pack your loose bracelets and necklaces using toilet paper rolls. Simply put one end through the middle of the roll, and then fasten the clasp.

4. Make a ‘first-night’ box of essentials – When you arrive at your new home, it is unlikely that the first thing you will want to do is start unpacking everything. You will probably want to have something to eat, and you will want to relax after a stressful and tiring day. For this reason, it is a good idea to make a box of essentials for your first night. This can include your makeup, toothbrush, and some pajamas, as well as anything else you think you will need to see you through the night and the morning.

5. Use wine cases for your glassware – There will surely be a local pub, winery, restaurant, or bar that is willing to give you some of their empty wine cases. This is a great way to keep your glasses organized. Plus, put in some scrunched-up newspaper around each glass so that you can protect it.

6. Create a schedule – Last but not least, the best way to ensure you do not get overwhelmed is to create a schedule. Don’t forget to defrost and clean your refrigerator at least a day or two before you move. Otherwise, you will have a leaky and stinky fridge to compete with, and no one wants that!
