Inter-Parliamentary Union welcomes the Shura elections next October

The Shura Council continued its session in the presence of His Excellency Duarte Pacheco, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.His Excellency the Speaker of the Shura Council, in on his behalf and that of the members of the Council, expressed his pride and appreciation to HE Pacheco for choosing the State of Qatar as the first country to visit officially.

His Excellency praised HE Pacheco's experience in the parliamentary field and his effective role, over the years, in implementing the tasks and objectives of the Inter-Parliamentary Union through his presidency of the Portuguese Parliament delegation and his chairmanship of the "+12" group, which includes the parliaments of European countries, Australia, Canada and New Zealand in the Inter-Parliamentary Union, as well as his presidency of many From union committees.

His Excellency Mr. Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud affirmed the Shura Council’s readiness to cooperate and coordinate with His Excellency the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union on all issues of concern to the Union’s future activities, especially everything related to strengthening parliamentary work, achieving and maintaining security and peace in the world and contributing to solving global problems such as poverty, terrorism and climate change, as well as achieving sustainable development in all countries of the world.

On his part, the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union expressed his happiness to visit the State of Qatar, praising the wise policy of the State of Qatar under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Amir of the country, in helping brotherly and friendly countries and resolving disputes through diplomatic means.

His Excellency also welcomed His Highness’s announcement that elections for the Shura Council will be held next October, praising the renaissance the State of Qatar is witnessing in various fields and the influential role it plays at the regional and international levels for the sake of peace and development in the world and the defense of peoples ’issues.

He also praised the fruitful efforts of His Excellency the Speaker of the Shura Council to promote joint international parliamentary action and achieve the goals of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, pointing to the election of His Excellency Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud as President of the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption, and to the United Nations choosing Qatar to be the headquarters of the United Nations Program Office to combat terrorism, which concerns parliamentary participation in preventing and combating terrorism, and its activities cover all parliaments of the countries of the world.

His Excellency the President of the International Parliamentary Union appreciated the role of the Qatari Shura Council and its distinguished efforts in conducting meetings and conferences of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and was glad in choosing Qatar as his first official visit to a country and expressed his thanks and appreciation for these efforts.
