Malls Told to Cut Air Conditioning in Philippines to Keep Crowds Out

The Philippines has devised a way to keep people from hanging out in malls when lockdown measures are relaxed: switch off the free wifi and turn up the air-conditioning to a balmy 26 degrees Celsius (79 degrees Fahrenheit).

The Southeast Asian country, which is home to 865 malls including some of Asia’s largest, could allow the partial reopening of supermarkets, drug stores, banks, laundry services, hardware stores and restaurants for takeout and deliveries, acting Planning Secretary Karl Chua said in a briefing on Tuesday.

Only healthy shoppers and those aged 21 to 59 years old will be allowed to enter the malls, Chua said.
