COVID-19 in Qatar: Coronavirus has entered peak stage; Dramatic jump in infections among Qataris, residents

Fluctuation in the number of Covid-19 cases during the last few days  is because the virus has entered peak stage: Dr Abdullatif Al-Khal at the special press conference of the Ministry of Health.

417 people admitted in intensive care unit (ICU) since the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The number of people admitted to intensive care is 417 people - 65 of them have been cured, 14 died, and 138 are currently undergoing treatment.

A significant increase in the number of tests reflects in the large increase in the capacity of the central laboratories - the number of daily tests reached more than 7400 samples.

Lack of social distancing among community members during Ramadan led to an increase in the number of infection and the spread of Coronavirus in Qatar so far: Dr. Abdullatif Al-Khal

The maximum number of cases is diagnosed among 25-34-year-old. This age group accounts for 36.7% of the cases.

11-15 cases were admitted to ICU on a daily basis for treatment during the past week.

Most age group prone to enter ICU is 40 - 49 years.

Despite repeated warning against gathering during the night of Garangao, many families met, which led to the further spread of Coronavirus.

We advise that no more than one family gather in one house for breakfast and Suhoor during the remainder of the blessed month of Ramadan.

Dramatic jump in infections among Qataris, residents

- The number of COVID-19 infections among Qataris and residents is 50 percent more than it was two weeks ago

- However, the majority of cases are that of expatriate workers

- Slackness in maintaining physical distance with others, especially due to Ramadan and Iftar assemblies cited as drivers of infections among Qataris

- Past seven days saw a huge increase in COVID-19 cases

- Although COVID-19 cases entered peak stage in Qatar, daily cases haven't reached the peak yet

-- Dr Abdullatif al Khal, Co-chair of the National Epidemic Preparation Committee, at a press conference in Doha on Thursday
