Elton John hosted a live coronavirus benefit concert from his living room over in the US on Sunday night and was joined by the likes of Lizzo and Mariah Carey.

Sir Elton was drafted in to host the iHeart Radio music benefit that was raising money to go towards coronavirus relief efforts and bring a little light relief to everyone in lockdown.

He was joined by a number of stars for the show, that aired on Fox, including Billie Eilish, Alicia Keys, Lizzo and Mariah Carey for the hour-long, advert-free show. The highlight definitely had to be Elton and Lizzo fan-girling over each other, with Elton eagerly saying ‘Hey Girl’ as he frantically waved at Lizzo through his webcam.

In the video call that we all wanted to be a part of, Lizzo then showered the praise on Elton and said that his music helped bring her ‘closer together’ with her family. She also touched on the concert brining people together and said: ‘As artists we’re able to do that even when we can’t physically be with people.’

Elton had kicked off the show by thanking health workers currently tackling the Covid-19 pandemic and explaining that funds raised from the iHeart Radio benefit concert will go to charities Feeding America and First Responders Children’s Foundation.

He managed to hunt down a keyboard to give fans a quick rendition of Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me during the show after claiming he was self-isolating in the only house he owns ‘without a piano’, while other artists came a lot more prepared.

Mariah Carey not only had a pianist on hand (via video link), but also backing singers as she delivered a performance of her hit Always Be My Baby.

Mariah Carey came prepared with a pianist and backing singers who joined her performance from their own homes.

Alicia Keys performed her track Underdog, while the Backstreet Boys delivered their iconic hit I Want It That Way while cutely joined by their kids and all tuning in from their separate homes. Imagine seeing that on Zoom. Dave Grohl sat in his front room with his guitar to sing Foo Fighters song My Hero, while Billie Eilish was joined by her brother Finneas O’Connell to sing her hit Bad Guy.

Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes took a break from self-isolating together in Miami to sing her track My Oh My and Lady Gaga stopped by to deliver a message urging fans to stay safe. The iHeart Radio benefit gig hosted by Elton replaced what would have been this year’s iHeart Radio Music Awards that were cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak.
