Indian Cinema Halls Reopen
Indian cinema halls and theaters reopen starting October 15. While production houses have not announced the release of any new films in October, several blockbusters are set to be re-released. Here’s a list of films hitting the screens this weekend.
Om Raut’s Tanhaji The Unsung Warrior, Anubhav Sinha’s Thappad, Hrithik Roshan-Tiger Shroff-starring War and Ayushmann Khurrana-starring Shubha Mangal Zayada Saavdhaan are a few films that will release in theaters again starting this Friday, October 16. Vivek Oberoi-starring biopic, PM Narendra Modi will also be one of the first movies to be screened in theaters.
In Hollywood films, the latest John Wick movie and Sam Mendes’ 1917 are also slated for re-release in India on Friday.
The announcement of re-releases does not come as a surprise; most theater-owners expected it. Owners of single-screen theaters in smaller cities and towns of India had said earlier that non-availability of new films for release would be an additional challenge. “We have had salaries to pay for past six months with no income at all. Even the smallest of business will help us improve the situation at this point,” a theater-owner had said while informing that they’d run old classics till the time new releases are available.
