Photos taken in Spijkenisse, today, November 2, 2020 shows a metro train that shot through a stop block at De Akkers metro station, fortunately without any passengers or serious injuries to the driver.

Incredible footage emerged last night from Dutch news site, of a sculpture of a whale’s tail saving a runaway train from plunging down 10 meters onto a cycle lane below.

According to the news site, the accident occurred at 00.30 on November 2 in a suburb of Rotterdam when a train ran through stop buffers at the end of the line.

The presence of the metal whale tail sculpture saved the train from sudden doom.

Local reports said that the driver was able to get out of the train himself and was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. Police on the scene reported that there was no passengers on the train.

The accident occurred in the Dutch suburb town of Spijkenisse at the end of the line station of De Akkers, and was captured by Dutch photojournalist, Joey Bremer.

Investigations are ongoing on what caused the train to have run through the lights and buffers. Footage of the police at the scene can be viewed here.

Thankfully an art display that had two whale’s tails was there to catch the train.

The art work is called ‘Whales Tails,’ and was installed in 2002 to represent the end of the line.
