New selective tax on listed food, drinks from June

A selective tax  that will be required on tobacco, pork meat, caffeinated drinks and sodas will come into power on 15 June. 

The move was declared by the Secretariat General for Taxation (SGT). 

In an announcement, the SGT stated: "June 15, 2019 is the date for the climb in specific tax that incorporates tobacco and its subsidiaries, pork and meat items, mixed refreshments, and caffeinated drinks by 100 percent and sodas by 50 percent." 

Every one of the individuals who assembling and import just as sell these products in Oman will be required to make good on this regulatory expense. 

The SGT stated: "The enlistment is liable to particular duties on merchants and makers of specific merchandise, and every one of the individuals who put these products for utilization, and any individual who claims them possessing it, and approved by the Secretariat General for Taxation to set up an expense stockroom." 

 

Furthermore, the individuals who do sell, assembling and import these merchandise should send a presentation on the day preceding the tax comes into power, expressing that they do manage pork and meat items, liquor, tobacco, soda pops and additionally caffeinated drinks. 

"Any individual occupied with an action identifying with specific merchandise, for example, import, creation, exchange or appropriation will present a transitional statement on the day going before the date of use of the tax , to be determined and payable inside 15 days from the date of utilization of the expense," said the Government Communications Center.
