No expatriate lawyers in Oman courts from 2021

Starting from next year, expat lawyers will not be allowed to attend or plead before courts of various degrees in the Sultanate.

The decision came in implementation of the Council of Ministers' decision, which set the date of December 31, 2020 as the deadline after which expatriate lawyers registered before the courts of first instance or at their level and the courts of appeal or the Supreme Court, working in the Omani law offices, may not attend or plead before the courts.

The Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs said in a statement: "The ministry calls on law firms, civil law firms and all concerned authorities in the Sultanate to adhere to this date to enforce the aforementioned provisions and to take all necessary measures to put them into practice."

The Ministry appreciates the efforts made by the expat attorney professors and the contributions and experiences they have made in order to advance the legal profession in the Sultanate and raise the level of its operators, wishing them success and advancement in their career.
