Oprah gives $500,000 to high school after-school program to keep kids off streets

Oprah Winfrey declared she's offering $500,000 to an activity at a New Jersey secondary school that is gone for keeping kids off the avenues. 

Vital Akbar Cook's "Lights On" program keeps West Side High School in Newark open on Friday evenings from 6 p.m. to midnight. WPVI-TV reports children can play b-ball, shoot pool, play computer games or even utilize a chronicle studio. 

Winfrey's blessing will enable the program to work three evenings per week over the mid year. She told several cheering understudies Friday amid an unexpected visit that she was enlivened by "the majority of the incredible things that are going on here."
