Trump says Iran ‘made a very big mistake’ in shooting down US drone

Donald Trump says ‘Iran made a very big mistake’ when they shot down a US drone. The President tweeted the warning after being briefed about the incident this morning. American and Iranian officials continue to dispute the exact location where the unmanned aircraft was shot down. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said the shooting sent ‘a clear message’ to America after claiming the drone was destroyed over Iranian airspace. But the US military called the downing an ‘unprovoked attack on a US surveillance asset in international airspace’ over the Strait of Hormuz.

President Trump’s latest comments have done nothing to quell the rising tensions between Tehran and Washington. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi later told reporters on Capitol Hill that she doesn’t think the President wants to go to war, adding that the American people don’t want to either. ‘There’s no appetite for going to war in our country,’ she said. The country needs to be ‘strong and strategic’ about protecting its interests and ‘cannot be reckless’.
