While taking all precautions to ensure safety of the project team, the endangered sea hawksbill turtle conservation project continues well. The number of nests transferred to the protected site on Fuwairet Beach reached (112) nests. Furthermore, turtles were measured as required, cleaned from snails and treated from some wounds.

This number is unprecedented, since the highest number of the previous year was (91) nests.

During the current week, fieldwork of the project witnessed an acceleration of nesting operations in the high temperatures and empty beaches due to ban imposed by the Coronavirus outbreak.

The Sea Turtle Conservation Project, funded by Qatar Petroleum and implemented by the Environmental Science Center of Qatar University and under the supervision of MME is underway in cooperation with a team from the Protection and Wildlife Department. The project covers the State's North-Eastern beaches, including (Ras Laffan Beach, Al-Huwailah, Al-Jassassiya, Marouna, Fuwairit, Al Gharia, Al-Mafeer) as well as the (Umm Tais and Ras Rukn) islands.
