55 people held for not wearing masks in Qatar, MoI announces today

Ministry of Interior (MoI) announced today that in line with the cabinet decision based on Law No. 17 of 1990 regarding infectious diseases, 55 people were referred to the Public Prosecution for non-compliance with wearing masks in places where they are mandatory.

The measure is in line with the cabinet decision, decree law No. 17 of 1990 on infectious diseases, and the precautionary measures in force in the country to contain the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19).

The designated authorities called on the public to adhere to the precautionary measures in place to ensure their safety and the safety of others.

Yesterday, November 30, MoI has referred 169 people to the Public Prosecution for not wearing masks, which is mandatory as part of Covid-19 precautionary measures.

20 individuals were reported for violating maximum number of people in a vehicle, which is specified as 4 including the driver, except for the members of the same family.

The police in Qatar have had a busy few days since they stepped up their crackdown on people ignoring the country's safeguards to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Over past few days, the police referred to the Public Prosecution hundreds of people who didn't wear masks in public.

Till now 2,164 people have been referred to the Public Prosecution for not wearing masks and 153 people for not following the limit of people inside a vehicle.

MoI and health authorities have been continuously warning public to follow the precautionary measures like wearing mask, following social distancing and restricting number of people in vehicles to fight the Covid-19 pandemic from spreading.

 

As per a Cabinet decision, drawn from the Law No. 17 of 1990 regarding infectious diseases and preventive measures, people who do not wear masks outside their homes may face penalties of up to three years in prison and/or QR200,000 fine.
