Afghan peace conference gets postponed

The State of Qatar, the Republic of Turkey and the United Nations has announced that the Istanbul Conference on the Afghanistan Peace Process has been postponed. 
 
During a joint statement that was issued yesterday, Qatar, Turkey and UN said that they planned to conduct a high level and inclusive conference from April 24 to May 4 between the representatives of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Taliban in Istanbul to complement the negotiations that commenced in Doha on September 2020, with an ultimate aim of achieving a sustainable and fair peace in Afghanistan. 
 
 
The joint statement also highlighted that in light of latest enhancements made, and after intensive consultations with the parties involved, it was jointly accepted to put the conference on hold to a later date when conditions would be more conducive to making tangible progress. 
 
The statement also said that the State of Qatar, the Republic of Turkey, and United Nations will work according to their efforts with determination to ensure peace and stability in Afghanistan.
