Al Sheehaniya Joins UNESCO Network of Learning Cities

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) accepted Al Sheehaniya Municipality as a member of the Global Network of Learning Cities (GNLC) of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning.

Al Sheehaniya is the third Qatari city to join the GNLC after Al-Wakrah and Al-Shamal. This is a significant achievement for these municipalities on their path to spread the concepts of sustainability and partnership with community institutions.

David Atchoarena, the Director of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, welcomed Al Sheehaniya as a member of the UNESCO GNLC, for the municipality?s fulfillment of all the criteria required for GNLC membership, through its adoption of the strategy of spreading the concept of sustainability and community involvement.

 

 

Director of Al-Sheehaniya Municipality Mr. Jaber Hassan Al Jaber received the membership certificate along with a letter from Secretary-General of the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science Hamda Hassan Al Sulaiti, where she sincerely congratulated Al Sheehaniya Municipality on obtaining the GNLC membership, wishing the city continued success and cooperation to achieve the sustainable development and lifelong learning goals of the UNESCO GNLC.
