Arab Cultural House in Berlin holds dialogue on public art in Qatar, Germany

The Arab Cultural House “The Diwan” in Germany, under the auspices of the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Berlin, organised a second session of a series of dialogue sessions entitled “Public Art in Qatar and Germany: Its Variety and Meaning”, in cooperation with Qatar Museums and Deutsche Bank, held via videoconference.

First Secretary and Cultural Affairs Officer at the Embassy of Qatar to the Federal Republic of Germany and the Arab Cultural House in Berlin Asma bint Mohammed Al Bakr stressed the importance of this dialogue, which brings together experts and participants from Qatar and Germany.

 

Director of Public Art at Qatar Museums Abdulrahman Al Ishaq reviewed the role of public art in Qatar, which is an essential building block in the public life of members of Qatari society. He also reviewed the most important artworks found in public squares and centres in the Qatar, such as Richard Serra’s artwork titled: East West - West East.

Al Ishaq said Qatar’s hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup is an opportunity for visitors to learn about Arab culture through art exhibitions held by Qatar Museums and artworks displayed in the public sphere of the country.
