Aim to exchange views on issues of mutual interest among member states
The Arab foreign ministers will meet in the Qatari capital Doha for “consultative” talks on June 8, an Arab League official said.
“This meeting is part of the League council’s keenness at the level of foreign ministers to intensify consultations on issues of mutual interest among the member states, mainly the political ones,” the pan-Arab organisation’s assistant head Hossam Zaki said.
The format of consultation meetings is an Arab League tradition that allows ministers to informally exchange opinions without sticking to a certain agenda or issue official statements.
Earlier this month, the Arab foreign ministers held a virtual emergency meeting on the flare-up of violence between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip, their worst showdown in years.
Qatar is the head of the Arab League’s current session.
