The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) ordered the immediate closure of a food store which served as a warehouse for storing expired food stuff. Violators are now being referred to legal proceedings by the local authorities.

The Ministry's Farm Violations Work Team in cooperation with the Municipality of Um Salal detected the said violations. The drive will resume also to seize such violations.

MME stated that the food store was selling expired food and storing them in unhygienic environmental conditions, which is violation of the provisions of Law No. 8 of 1990 regarding the regulation of human food control.

The Director of Um Salal Municipality has issued an administrative decision to shut down the warehouse.
