Cabinet discusses draft law on Shura Council polls

The Cabinet yesterday, during its regular meeting at the Amiri Diwan, deliberated on agendas for upcoming Shura Council elections. The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani.

Following the meeting, the Minister of Municipality and Environment and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs H E Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie issued a statement that the Cabinet reviewed the Shura Council recommendations on taking the necessary measures to administer a draft law to issue the Shura Council election system law and a draft law on the Shura Council.

The Cabinet also considered approval of a draft decree defining the electoral districts of the Shura Council and their respective regions. Also, approval of the following draft decisions of the Minister of Interior to nominate the head and members of the election committees for the Shura Council elections, forming a nominees committee and its work system and controls, forming a voters committee and its system and controls, and determining the sources of financing spending on election campaigns and the controls and procedures for controlling it.

 

The Cabinet considered approval of a draft decision of the Minister of Municipality and Environment on the executive regulations for Law No. 24 of 2006 promulgating the Law (Regulation) on Agricultural Fertilizers and Soil Conditioners in GCC Countries, and draft decision of the Minister of Municipality and Environment regarding the types of fertilizers and agricultural soil conditioners allowed, their specifications, conditions and procedures for their use and circulation.

They also reviewed approval of the proposal to renew the term of membership of the committee to coordinate search and rescue mechanisms in civil aviation.

The Cabinet considered taking necessary measures to ratify an agreement on the promotion and protection of mutual investments between the government of the State of Qatar and the government of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea. 

It also reviewed an economic, commercial, and technical cooperation agreement between the government of the State of Qatar and the government of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea.

The Cabinet considered the approval of a draft memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs in the State of Qatar and the Presidency of Religious Affairs in the Republic of Turkey for cooperation in the field of endowments and Islamic affairs, and a draft friendship and cooperation agreement between the municipality of Doha in the State of Qatar and the municipality of Lima in the Republic of Peru.

The Cabinet reviewed the annual report for the year 2019/2020 of the Standing Committee for rescue and relief work and humanitarian assistance in the affected areas of sisterly and friendly countries. It took the appropriate decision in this regard.  The Cabinet also stressed the continuation of work with the preventive measures that have been taken to face the pandemic after listening to the explanation by the Minister of Public Health H E Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari on the latest developments to limit the spread of COVID-19.
