Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) issued a warning on social media by warning WhatsApp users to beware of hacking attempts in the region as it has asked the users to enable the two-step verification feature for additional safety.
Expounding on how WhatsApp accounts are hacked, the CRA said that, "hackers uses your mobile number to create a new WhatsApp account, so you will receive an SMS message from WhatsApp with a six-digit verification code."
The hacker then calls the users and convinces them in various ways to share this code. Once the code is received by the hacker, the person then gets control of the WhatsApp account, further communicating with all your contacts to defraud them by impersonating the user.
The CRA in their tweet has mentioned that the users must enable this two-step verification feature and should to share this code with anyone.
