The day-to-day auction that is conducted at the Al Wakra fish market has seen a substantial fall in the quantity of fish that are display during the auction, with nearly 2.5 tonnes compared to the 35-40 tonnes per day during the beginning of auctions that was conducted at Umm Salal Central Market.
The local Arabic daily Arrayah reported that after the opening of auctions at Umm Salal Central Market, almost all boat owners and fishermen in the region began to provide their catch there instead of Al Wakra market.
This resulted in declining of Al Wakra Fish market’s auction that was conducted on a daily basis as much as 37.5 tonnes. In spite of this, retail prices remained firm at the market for most fish varieties except for hamour, hamam and safi that was sold earlier at greater prices than the current.
