Doha Municipality demolishing old and distorted buildings

The move is in line with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment’s initiative to preserve public safety and beauty of the city.

The Doha Municipality, represented by the Maintenance and Building Demolition team, in co-operation with the Mechanical Material Department is implementing the decision of the Building Maintenance and Demolition Committee at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) to remove old and distorted buildings from the public view in one of the areas of the city of Doha, within the framework of the efforts made to preserve the public safety and beauty of the city.

During the second quarter of last year, the Committee for Building Maintenance and Demolition at the MME had issued a total of 140 decisions, including 115 demolition decisions and 25 maintenance decisions. 54 decisions were issued in April, 40 in May and 46 in June. 

 

During this period the Committee received 277 requests from municipalities, including 197 requests for demolition and 80 requests for maintenance, according to information posted on MME’s official website.

Since its establishment, the Committee has received 1178 demolition requests and 347 maintenance requests. It has acted accordingly with regard to these requests, whether by issuing appropriate decisions, addressing relevant authorities or instructing municipalities on how to handle the situation as the case may be, in accordance with Law No. 29 of 2006 on building control. 

As per news report on MME’s website dated 28/07/2020, the Committee had issued 1110 decisions to date.
