Ehsan Centre activated a psychological counselling service for elderly people namely ‘Shawerni’

Centre for Empowerment and Elderly Care (Ehsan), one of the centres falling under the umbrella of Qatar Social Work Foundation, has started its operation namely ‘Shawerni’ (Consult me) service, in order to provide psychological support services by the centre for the elderly, members of the family, and caretakers, to give the elderly people good and adequate mental health.
Three communication channels were created by Ehsan, including a phone that enables the elderly and the members of the household to contact the specialists during the daytime and WhatsApp, or through the Ehsan Centre website: www.Ehsan.org.qa during the evening time.
The services aim and promotes the Ehsan’s efforts by contributing services to the elderly in the region that are of very high-quality, especially as the current situation is not in much favour due to the global pandemic. The centre aims in giving counselling and psychological services, to be aware of the current situation and mental health and to guide and aid the elderly, caretakers and family members in the right way.
Ehsan also provides online video conferencing by calling the designated phone number, or by visiting the centre's website.
The psychological specialists will be attending the phone calls from the centre, who are well experienced in listening and communicating, as well as methodologies and techniques in offering psychological counselling, and to deal with the elderly people. In few cases, they can be directed to the specialised government hotlines to suit their health condition.
The Centre initiated the ‘Shawerni’ service last year, in order to provide sufficient guidance and an improved mental health state to the elderly. The centre has also assured that all the calls and messages will be kept confident and private.
