Acting charge d'affaires at the Qatar embassy in El Salvador, Tariq Othman al-Othman, took part in the opening ceremony of El Espino School in El Salvador’s municipality of Comasagua.

With the support of the government of the State of Qatar, the school was built and the opening coincides with the imminent start of the return of students to schools that were closed due to the disruptive coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

The opening ceremony was attended by El Salvador Education Minister of El Salvador Karla Hanania.

Qatar offered this support after the tropical storm, floods and torrents that struck El Salvador in 2011, and destroyed and affected much of the infrastructure in the region.

The construction of El Espino School is not the first project that benefited from Qatar's support. Qatar has also given provision to various humanitarian aid in El Salvador through the Qatar Fund for Development to address the effects of the Covid-19 and help the affected citizens,

In her speech on this occasion, Minister Hanania thanked the Qatar government for this support, helping to purchase the land on which the school was built.

In a speech on this occasion, al-Othman said that the support provided by the Qatar government contributed to the purchase of the land, as well as the design of facilities that include teaching halls for the stages of basic education and pre-school education, and the buildings housing the administration, computer lab and the special section for preparing meals and the entertainment centre, as well as purchasing equipment, furniture and computers.
This project, he added, is the result of a joint effort between the Qatar embassy and El Salvador’s ministry of education.

Al-Othman reiterated Qatar's commitment to continue supporting the people of El Salvador and promoting the educational development of Salvadoran children.
Kela expressed happiness on behalf of her fellow students.
“Our municipality is modest and simple, but it has a vision for the future, and we know that only through education can we change our lives,” she said, expressing thanks and appreciation to Qatar for helping to build their new school.
