Football: Sanchez to lead Qatar to 2022 World Cup

Qatar's Football Association said yesterday that Felix Sanchez has expanded his agreement as head  coach of Qatar's national team through to the 2022 World Cup hosted by Qatar.

Spaniard Sanchez drove the team to the Asian Cup title in the United Arab Emirates in January having been selected to replace Jorge Fossati amid the final stages of the nation's fizzled endeavor to meet all requirements for the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia.

The Asian Cup win, when Qatar defeated Japan in the final in Abu Dhabi, was the nation's first real trophy and was accomplished with a squad that is relied upon to shape the main part of the side at the World Cup finals in three years' time.

Sanchez, 43, has spent quite a bit of his coaching profession in Qatar, working at the Aspire Academy before driving the country to the Asian Under-19 title in 2014 and he has a long-standing association with huge numbers of the present squad.

He holds the situation in spite of theory the QFA was on the chase for a prominent mentor to lead the team into the World Cup finals and Sanchez's next task will be to take Qatar to the Copa America finals in Brazil in June, where they are one of two welcomed sides.
