H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs said that the Arab League Council's annual meeting held yesterday at the ministerial level addressed several topics and reports relevant to Arab affairs.


His Excellency said that there was consensus on several problems pertaining to joint Arab action at the end of the 155th meeting of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level, which was chaired by the State of Qatar, at a joint press conference with the Arab League Secretary-General, H E Ahmed Aboul Gheit.


He praised the constructive environment at the sessions and praised Ahmed Aboul Gheit on the Council's acceptance of his reappointment as Secretary-General for a second term, wishing him progress.


According to H E Sheik Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, they addressed several topics of interest to Arab countries, including the Palestinian problem and joint Arab intervention. In response to a question about the State of Qatar's relationships with Turkey and Iran, as well as intervention in Arab countries' internal affairs, he said that there is a misunderstanding between bilateral relationships between nations and relationships within the framework of the Arab League, and that we condemn interference in the internal affairs of the State of Qatar or any other country, and that each state has the right to govern itself.


Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, speaking about Qatari-Egyptian connections and his meeting with Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sameh Shoukry, said: "We attended the Al Ula conference, and there was a resolution that ended the Gulf crisis, and there was a meeting between two delegations from Qatar and Egypt." We, the State of Qatar, and our Egyptian brothers see things favorably and hope for warm ties resumption. A constructive attitude and hope marked the meeting with Minister Shoukry for the normalization of relations.


In the meantime, during the 155th session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level, headed by Foreign Minister H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the permanent representatives debated the draught agenda and approved agreements submitted by them during their meeting on Monday, with Qatar presiding.


The draught agenda included nine major components, including following the political developments of the Palestinian cause and the Arab-Israeli conflict, triggering the Arab Peace Initiative, Israeli developments and violations in Occupied Al Quds, and a follow-up on the budget.


Underneath the heading of Arab affairs and national security, the draught plan also includes expressing unity with Lebanon, addressing the recent developments in Syria, Libya, and Yemen, ensuring the security of navigation and energy sources in the Arab Gulf region peace and prosperity in Sudan.


Another thing on international political relations is the challenge of Israel's armaments to Arab national security and international stability and the creation of a Nuclear-Weapon-Free-Zone (NWFZ) in the Middle East that will be free of all other mass destruction devices.


The element on international political relations frequently covers Arab affairs at regional and international meetings, such as the Arab-African partnership and Arab-European dialogue processes and the partnership between the Arab League, the UN, and the UN Security Council.


The agendas also included a discussion of supporting refugee in Arab countries, especially Iraqi displaced people, as well as a draught Arab strategy to avoid and counter all forms of violence against refugees, particularly violence against women and underage girls, as well as the Arab Women Mediators Network's draught strategy and an amendment to the Arab Human Rights Commission. International terrorism and how to fight it, ensure Arab national security and countering terrorism, and improve the Arab mechanism for fighting terrorism were among the legal issues discussed.
