The Business Year presented an award to Hamad Port as the 'Economic Diversification Project of the Year' in a ceremony attended by the Minister of Transport and Communications, H E Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti. Capt. Abdullah Al Khanji, CEO of Mwani Qatar, and Eng. Nabil AlKhaldi, Executive Director of Hamad Port Project, was also present at the ceremony.

According to WTO, economic diversification happens when factors of production are moved within and across different sectors towards higher productivity uses, which is directly linked to structural transformation and trade diversification. In Hamad Port's case, this comes in the form of the efficient management of goods and services transportation, the focus on export growth, FDI attraction, and increasing the range of goods and services exported. The Umm Al-Houl Special Economic Zone, near Hamad Port, is one of several Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in Qatar that promotes entrepreneurship and helps small and medium-sized businesses develop. The Hamad Port Project has simply assisted Qatar in successfully overcoming natural resource superiority and geographic constraints. The Hamad Port Project has a bearing on Qatar's day-to-day market operations and investment decisions by offering adequate stimulus mechanisms, investment and economic changes to lower trade prices, and proactive policies to promote the reallocation of some of the country's capital to new activities. Qatar's economic freedom and diversification are dependent on this. In accordance with Qatar's National Vision 2030, the Hamad Port Project aims to attract trade and industrialization to bolster the economy. The port's amenities and infrastructure have prompted shipping lines to steer their frontline services to Hamad Port.

Every week, the Hamad Port handles more than 24 direct services from all of the main global shipping lines. These direct frontline services also opened up a slew of new trading routes and opportunities in Qatar, fueling the country's economic growth. The Hamad Port plays an important role in the effective shipment of goods that businesses manage for customers.
