His Highness The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani received today at his office in the Amiri Diwan, HE Senior Advisor to U.S. President Jared Kushner and his accompanying delegation, on the occasion of their visit to the country.

The meeting reviewed the strategic bilateral cooperation between the State of Qatar and the United States of America. It also dealt with regional and international developments, particularly developments in the Middle-East.

As reported earlier, White House senior adviser and US President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and his team are headed to Qatar and Saudi Arabia this week for talks.

A senior US administration official, speaking to Reuters on condition of anonymity, said Kushner met at the White House last week with the Kuwaiti foreign minister, Sheikh Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah. Kuwait is seen as critical in any effort to resolve a three-year rift between Qatar and other members of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Kushner’s trip comes days after the assassination of a top Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh in Tehran by unidentified assailants. 

Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, which comprise the GCC, cut diplomatic ties with Qatar in 2017 and imposed a blockade on.

Trump's time in office is about to end, with President-elect Joe Biden due to be sworn in the coming year, on January 20.
