The campaign namely ‘I am and I will’ held to coincide with the occasion of World Cancer Day, which was launched under the umbrella of Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) has been concluded by one of the UICC members, Qatar Cancer Society (QCS). The campaign that witnessed various events, virtual workshops to raise awareness of cancer, early detection among the community, awareness competitions, and methods of prevention ran throughout the whole month of February.
The campaign was also seen with unique and intriguing events and activities such as motorbike and motorcycle walk at Lusail car in co-operation with Qatar Motorcycle Center and Mawather Center, in addittion to a virtual walking challenge as well as also “I am and I will” competition for schools and universities students in drawing short story and educational video.
Due to the Covid-19 restrictions and constraints to decline the further spread of the virus, precautionary measures were taken place which resulted in launching the event on electronic media
Within the framework of the preventive measures to limit the spread of COVID-19, the campaign was launched on electronic media where numerous awareness videos were produced with the participation of media figure Abdulrahman Al-Ashqar. Many virtual awareness workshops were held promoting healthy lifestyles in the community, also brochures were shared online in different languages.
A virtual workshop for capacity building of cancer awareness promoters was also implemented, and participation in the virtual seminar for World Cancer Day in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Health in Qatar, National Cancer Program, Hamad Medical Corporation, Primary Health Care Corporation, and Sidra Medicine.
A wellbeing campaign was also introduced expounding how to overcome the fears during the frustrating period of treatment and beyond targeting primarily at those who are suffering cancer. This awareness program was also organised for those who are not well with breast cancer, in addition to publishing stories of hope on many platforms and involving them in virtual workshops.
Many institutions and companies in Qatar participated in the World Cancer Day campaign that was launched under the auspices of Ooredoo, QTerminals, Talabat, FMM, Triple Two, the Social and Sport Contribution Fund (Daam), Qatar Aluminum, Doha Film Institute, this is our belief from the state’s institutions to support community partnerships to leave a lasting impact in Qatar and to participate in raising awareness of cancer and ways to prevent it.
The campaign also included advertisements supported by Elan Qatar W.L.L and lighting many landmark buildings in orange colour in an indication of the celebration of World Cancer Day, in cooperation with the Public Works Authority – Ashghal.
The public and the audiences were given a chance to generously donate one riyal on any order they make via Talabat application and challenge the 2 million Nojoom points rewards – Ooredoo – Qatar.
