IKEA joins Qatar Charity to distribute 4000 meals to corona-affected

Qatar Charity (QC), in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, distributed 4000 ready-to-eat meals, donated by IKEA Qatar store, to those infected with the coronavirus (COVID-19) in quarantine centers in Umm Salal and Al Mukaynis.

The distribution of the meals comes as part of Qatar Charity’s continued efforts to provide food and preventive supplies, aiming at contributing to reducing the spread of the coronavirus.

“As part of the efforts made by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment represented by Al-Daayen Municipality to reduce the curb of the coronavirus, the Awareness and Health Department has provided full support and supervision of such initiatives that contribute to helping those affected by the virus,” said Mr. Ahmed Matar Al-Shammari, public health inspector at Al-Daayen Municipality. Al-Shammari also praised the support of the IKEA store and Qatar Charity's ongoing efforts in extending support to those affected by the COVID-19 outbreak.

 

 

 

Mr. Alexey Sitkin, Store Manager of IKEA Qatar, said, “Caring for the people is one of IKEA values. We strive to support the competent authorities and the local community during this hard time in whichever way possible. As part of its corporate social responsibility, IKEA Restaurant takes an essential role in that by offering over 4,000 healthy meal packages for the infected and needy ones.”

For his part, Mr. Abdulaziz Jassim, Director of Customer Service Department in Qatar Charity, said, “Qatar Charity continues to distribute meals and food baskets to families with low incomes and those affected by the coronavirus pandemic.”

He added that Qatar Charity, as a civil society organization, and as part of its contribution to societal programs, has distributed food baskets to needy families and workers in addition to ready-to-eat meals for workers in different quarantine centers across the country. He also noted that this initiative launched at the beginning of COVID-19, has an overwhelming response from various institutions and companies in the country.

The Director of Customer Service Department appreciated the contribution of the IKEA Qatar store by providing the meals and sweets, calling on other companies to follow IKEA to help affected families and provide them with food baskets.
