The Qatar National Tourism Council (QNTC), in co-operation with the Doha Film Institute, announced that the two FIFA Club World Cup semi-final games would be aired at the DFI’s drive-in cinema in Lusail from 7 to 8 February.

This initiative intends to provide fans with the opportunity to support their teams, and enjoy the excitement of football, adhering to the social-distancing protocols and the related COVID-19 precautionary measures.

This initiative is a reflection of Qatar’s cultural diversity, and its passion for sports in general and football in particular.

The drive-in cinema will air the first semi-final game between Brazilian Libertadores Cup champion Palmeiras and the Tigres UANL Concacaf’s Champions on 7 February at 9:00 p.m. On 8 February, the drive-in cinema will broadcast Europe’s champion Bayern Munich’s first game against Africa’s champions Al Ahly SC at 9:00 p.m.

Currently, the drive-in cinema is capable of accommodating 159 cars. The ticket prices range from QR120 to QR150.

In a press statement, the QNTC chief operating officer Berthold Trenkel stated that they are happy to continue this successful partnership with the DFI to develop smooth entertainment experiences for citizens and residents. He expects that this will further contribute to domestic tourism, without violating any social-distancing protocols in the current circumstances.

According to DFI chief executive Fatma Hassan Alremaihi, this would be one of the best ways to bring audiences together, adhering to social-distancing protocols. The open-air experience of the drive-in cinemas is expected to bring the excitement of the game to the community at a time when it is challenging for many to go to a game.

He further adds, “A retro-favorite, the drive-in, during the pandemic, is being reimagined across the world, giving us new ways of experiencing films, music, sports, and live performances.”

Every passenger aged above 18 is required to show their Etheraz at the drive-in cinema, to ensure a smooth entertainment experience.

Each ticket applies for one car – with a maximum capacity, not exceeding, of four individuals, all of whom are required to be over 12 years of age. Two chairs would be allowed per car, within the designated parking area.

To ensure a smooth and organized entry, the drive-in cinema will open one hour before the games start.
