Minister of Education and Higher Education Affirms Ministry's Great Efforts in Reducing COVID-19 Effects on Education

HE Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Wahed Al Hammadi expressed his thanks and gratitude to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani for honoring and patronizing the Education Excellence Award Day ceremony, with his presence and generous patronage of this award since its inception fourteen years ago, especially in light of the exceptional circumstances in the country and the world as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, considering this as evidence of the importance attached by His Highness to this award and his belief that education is the main engine and mainstay of sustainable development.

In his speech at the 14th Education Excellence Award Day ceremony 2021 on Monday, HE Minister of Education and Higher Education affirmed that the Ministry has made great efforts to confront the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic to reduce its negative effects in the field of education, as it took the decision to implement a distance education system and the transition to this system in Qatar's schools was smooth and easy in these exceptional circumstances.

His Excellency said that this transition was implemented because they have required infrastructure of electronic platforms and digital sources in addition to trained human cadres and students who have the skills to deal with technology, while taking precautionary measures to preserve the health and safety of students and those in schools and universities.

HE Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Wahed Al Hammadi said that despite the difficulties and challenges, 374 contestants in all categories of the award applied from private and public schools, and local and international universities and 71 winners were announced, explaining that ceremony also witnessed the launch of the Education Excellence Ambassadors Program, who were selected from the previous winners in order to contribute to educating and motivating students, deepening the concepts of excellence in the Qatari community, and promoting positive trends towards innovation, creativity, and scientific research among youth.

He added that despite the challenges and difficulties that the educational systems in the world faced due to the pandemic, they were able, thanks to God and then the guidance of His Highness, to overcome this crisis and were able to finish the previous school year and start the current school year, as well as to conduct the exams on the scheduled dates. This is because the State believes that education is indispensable, and His Highness had affirmed in the Shura Council on continuing to focus spending of the general budget on education and health. This confirms the State's commitment to providing an education system characterized by sustainability, innovation, quality, and diversity.

For his part, First Lieutenant Eng. Ahmed Abdullah Ali Al Jubran Al Buainain, winner of the Education Excellence Award this year in the category of master's degree holders, delivered a speech on behalf of all of his colleagues, winners of the award from all categories, in which he expressed their happiness at the patronage and honoring of HH the Amir to this ceremony and honoring them in Education Excellence Day, stressing that this honor and celebration are the culmination of what the wise leadership has worked and is still working on in terms of investing in Qatari people and building a high-level educational system that prepares the Qatari citizen to face the challenges of the twenty-first century, with knowledge and skills, and the principles of our true religion and our authentic Arab culture.

He affirmed the winners' pledge that this day will not be the end but the beginning of a new excellence in education and work, based on their responsibility as citizens towards the State of Qatar.
