In January alone, the total number of people violating precautionary measures reached 14,513 and it continues to grow, amid rising tensions of a second wave of the pandemic likely to hit Qatar.

Speaking at a joint press conference, Brigadier Abdullah Khalifa Al Muftah, Director of the Public Relations Department at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said that they were gearing up on patrol activities on roads and neighbourhoods to catch those violating the protocols.

He added that starting from Sunday onward, for conducting weddings, an application should be submitted online, informing the authorities about the same. The Qatar Cabinet has warned people to not hold wedding parties in closed and open spaces until further notice; this doesn’t apply to home or majlis weddings, in the presence of no more than 10 people in closed spaces and 20 people in open spaces.

People are required to notify the Ministry of Interior of the date and venue of the wedding ceremony. When conducting weddings, it is mandatory that people abide by the procedures and precautionary measures as determined by the Ministry.

Alongside, Qatar has re-imposed a four-tier plan to restrict the spread of the virus.
