MME agricultural quarantine offices inspected 7,070 imported shipments

The Ministry of Municipality and Environment’s (MME) agricultural quarantine offices inspected 7,070 shipments, weighing over 147,000 tonnes, of various  agricultural products in last month.

The officials destroyed 92 consignments, weighing over 72 tonnes, as they contained damaged products or products that violate the Agricultural Quarantine Law.

The agricultural quarantine aims to protect nation's agricultural wealth from foreign-origin pests.

 

The Agricultural Quarantine Law stipulates that all agricultural products, plants and any other materials which is imported to the country should be subjected to phytosanitary regulations to ensure other agricultural production inputs are in conformity to the conditions and specifications. (QNA)
