MME setting up specialized team to deal with stray dogs

The current move by MME to set up a specialized unit to take care of stray dogs and a center for stray animals is an initiative that pet lovers in the country will greatly appreciate.

The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) in an effort to manage complaints regarding stray dogs in the country has stated that it is setting up a specialized team to deal with them.

MME commenting on the issue stated that this was primarily due to the increase in complaints it has received in the recent weeks, regarding stray dogs

The Ministry is also currently completing all the necessary procedures required for appointing a specialized company to deal with stray dogs, in accordance with globally acceptable standards.

Furthermore, MME is currently preparing and equipping a centre for sheltering dogs and stray animals which is expected to be completed soon.

Currently, there are a few non-profit voluntary organisations like QAWS (Qatar Animal Welfare Society) which was founded in 2004 to help the stray and abandoned animals in Qatar. Funded purely by public donations, the shelter is a temporary home to over 150 animals looking for new families and is a permanent home to over 50 animals that are not suitable for rehoming for one reason or another.

Paws Rescue (Qatar) is a non-profit animal shelter dedicated to providing a safe haven for homeless animals until they can be placed in responsible, loving homes. The animal charity saves abandoned, injured, and abused animals in Qatar. It also relies on donations and volunteers.

Apart from non-profit organisations like these there are also individuals or groups on facebook like Pets in Qatar and Pinoy Animal Lovers (Qatar) etc that rescue and re-home stray animals.

The current move by MME to set up a specialized unit to take care of stray dogs and a center for stray animals is an initiative that pet lovers in the country will greatly appreciate.
