OFWs sa Qatar kasama sa mabibigyan ng free COVID-19 vaccine

Nakarating na ang first batch ng coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines sa Qatar at ito ay available din para sa mga Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) for free, ayon sa Philippine Labor Office (POLO) sa Qatar.
Narito ang pahayag ng POLO Qatar sa ulat ng CNN:
"Labor Attaché David Des Dicang said the vaccines may be made available by the Qatari government to OFWs for free," the Department of Labor and Employment said in a statement on Monday, citing a report submitted to them by the official.
"Prime Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani directed the health sector to provide the vaccine to everyone in accordance with the health standards of Qatar," the agency added.
Ang mga sumusunod ay ilang mahahalagang kaganapan at impormasyon tungkol sa COVID-19 vaccine sa Qatar:
• Kinumpirma ng Ministry of Public Health sa Qatar ang Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine for emergency use. Ang first batch ng vaccines ay nakarating sa bansa ngayon lamang, December 21, 2020.
• Ang mga unang bibigyan ng bakuna ay ang:
- Elderly people
- may chronic diseases
- medical frontliners
Habang ang general population ay makakatanggap ng doses simula January 2021.

Simula ng pandemic, tinatayang 300,000 OFWs mula sa buong mundo ang bumalik ng Pilipinas. Ayon sa Labor Department, nasa 240,000 OFWs pa rin ang nasa Qatar.
Sa Pilipinas, ang pamahalaan ay naglaan ng 2.6 million doses mulal sa British medicine supplier na AstraZeneca sa tulong ng private sector. Nagkaroon na ng mga negosyasyon sa ibang developers katulad ng US company Moderna na magsisimula on or before December 30.
Nakahanda ang Moderna at US-based company Arcturus na mag-supply ng 25 million doses sa second half ng 2021. Ang US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo ay nangakong tutulungan din ang Pilipinas na magkaroon ng Pfizer's vaccine.
