The Programme is implemented by the Central Radiation Laboratory of the Department of Radiation and Chemicals Protection, as part of the ongoing water, air and soil radiological monitoring in the state.

Phase I of the project aims to monitor the radiation levels in the soil along the Eastern Coastline of Qatar, in order to establish a basic database for the radiation levels in the air and soil at selected areas of the Eastern Coastline, in anticipation of radiological and nuclear emergencies. More than 20 samples were collected.

Eng. Bader Al-Saadi the Radiation Laboratory officer pointed out that according to the Action Plan, Operational Phase I of the project involves radiation dosimetry, 1 meter from the ground, and the collection of some soil samples at different depths from different areas on the Eastern Coastline of the state starting from Sealine, through Mesaieed, Khor Al Udeid and Al Wakra, to the north.

The project will continue as planned to cover more than 100 sites in Qatar. Furthermore, this programme comes as part of the integration with the monitoring data of the radiation early warning networks.
