Travel agencies feel Umrah now possible for people in Qatar as early as end of this month.

The lifting the land, air and sea blockade on Qatar has got pilgrim tour operators preparing special packages, as citizens and residents alike are rushing to book trips to Saudi Arabia, mainly for the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages.

Umrah and Hajj services from Doha have resumed operations following the Al Ula declaration of the 5 of January.

However, Qatari residents are facing some obstacles as the Saudi consular services are still not operational in Doha and therefore visas are yet to be issued for Qatar’s residents, according to local media reports.

Furthermore, tour operators are facing procedural delays as it takes time to secure hotel bookings for the pilgrims, along with approvals for visas to be issued by the Saudi embassy.

The process is further complicated in light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and those travelling through the Saudi-Qatar border at the Salwa crossing must present a negative COVID-19 test certificate that is issued no more than 48 hours prior.

However, the sources have said that all necessary preparations are being made to accommodate the visitors and arrivals are also required to hotel quarantine at approved facilities.

News that travel to Saudi Arabia can now resume is being welcomed by both the pilgrim tour operators and the general public.

Qatar’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has announced that latest updates on travels and requirements for prospective pilgrims will be posted the on its website.
