Qatar Airways has begun employing an ultraviolet light treatment system for its aircraft, the carrier announced.

Qatar is using the Honeywell Ultraviolet Cabin System, a device about the size of a beverage cart that has extendable arms to treat aircraft seats and surfaces with UV light, which can inactivate certain viruses and bacteria, according to the carrier. So far, it has six of the devices and plans to obtain more to operate them aboard all aircraft turnarounds at Doha's Hamad International Airport.

The UV treatment is in addition to Qatar's cleaning process using products approved by the International Air Transport Association and World Health Organization, the carrier said.
