Qatar Airways not interested in Jet Airways backed by ‘enemy’ state: Baker

Qatar Airways (QA) won't purchase a stake in Jet Airways as a generous segment of the debt-laden Indian carrier is held by Etihad Airways, whose proprietor Abu Dhabi is an "enemy" of Qatar, its Group Chief Executive Akbar al Baker said on Tuesday.

"We would see it (Jet Airways) if a 24 percent stake was not held by Etihad," Baker said on the sidelines of a flight meeting in Mumbai. "How might I take a stake in an aircraft which is claimed by our adversary?"

Baker said Qatar Airways would be "charmed" to take a stake in IndiGo, the biggest aircraft in India - home to the world's quickest developing flight showcase.

The Qatari aircraft has recently communicated an enthusiasm for putting resources into IndiGo, claimed by InterGlobe Aviation.

"Be that as it may, not in a carrier where generous proprietorship is by the adversary of my nation," he stated, alluding to Jet.

As a major aspect of a more extensive exertion to broaden its portfolio outside its home market, the Qatari transporter acquired a 10 percent stake in Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd in 2017 and 5 percent in China Southern Airlines Co Ltd this month. Qatar Airways likewise stays keen on beginning a completely claimed aircraft in India, Baker said on Tuesday, yet that isn't permitted under India's present outside speculation rules.
