The Philippine Embassy in Doha and the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Qatar (POLO-Qatar) collaborated with the Qatar authorities in distributing Zakat gifts to the Filipino Community on the occasion of Eidal-Fitr.

The Zakat gifts, which come in the form of 4,000 food parcels, were donated by the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs (MADLSA), the Ministry of Interior (MOI), and Qatar Charity to the Philippine Embassy and POLO-Qatar on 22 May 2020 at Migrant Filipino Workers and Other Filipinos Resource Center (MWOFRC), for onward distribution to overseas Filipinos adversely affected by work disruptions caused by the COVID-19 global pandemic.

The Philippine Embassy and POLO-Qatar officials expressed gratitude for the gesture of the Qatari government.

The MADLSA, the MOI, and the Qatar Charity also directly coordinated with Filipino community organizations and gave them another 5,000 food parcels to be distributed to the Filipinos.

Since the start of the Philippine Embassy and POLO-Qatar’s food assistance program in April 2020, some 9,000 requests have been registered, of which 7,000 individuals have already benefitted–including from donations by Qatar.
