Qatar Charity marks ‘International Day of Charity’ with constant humanitarian efforts globally

Qatar Charity (QC) marked International Day of Charity, which is observed on September 5 every year, to recognize the importance of charity works in alleviating humanitarian crises and human suffering, as well as the efforts of charitable organizations and individuals in easing the plight of the vulnerable worldwide.

Thanks to its humanitarian and development projects implemented across Asia, Africa, and Europe, Qatar Charity has gone global. Operating worldwide through more than 30 field offices, and with 500 regional partners in 70 countries, Qatar Charity managed to bring about a change in the lives of millions of people over more than three decades.

Owing to its field experience, Qatar Charity has managed to implement the projects of international organizations like UNHCR and WHO.

Within Qatar

‘Charity Starts at Home’ is one of the most significant initiatives launched by Qatar Charity, which covers social welfare programs and assistance to support families with low incomes, those in debts, workers and others, as well as cultural and public programs for the service and development of society.

Over 844,000 people benefited from the projects of his initiative, valued at more than QR130mn spent by Qatar Charity within the State of Qatar in 2019.

Qatar Charity was ranked as one of Qatar’s top 10 most supportive brands that have participated in supporting the country during the current coronavirus (COVID19-) pandemic, based on phone interviews conducted by Ipsos, a global multinational market research and a consulting firm.

Qatar Charity has provided various types of assistance like food parcels, ready-to-eat meals, health bags, and awareness materials to workers and expatriate communities, benefiting more than 1,168,952 persons until mid-August. It has fully equipped an 852-bed quarantine facility for workers in the Industrial Area of Qatar.

Relief Aid

Under the supervision of the Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities (RACA), Qatar Charity along with other Qatari bodies launched the "Lebanon in Our Hearts" campaign that raised QR94 million through a live transmission by TV channels and radio stations

Qatar Charity has been keen to carry out humanitarian interventions since the second day of the massive explosion that has rocked the port area of Beirut, aiming at delivering the urgent relief aid to the affected through its field teams in Lebanon. Two planes carrying over 100 tons of food aid have been sent, in cooperation with Qatar Airways.

Health

As Qatar Charity attaches importance to the health sector, it has developed and operated four primary health care centers in northern Syria at an estimated cost of 7 million Qatari riyals, while it has established a hospital in Indonesia to provide medical services to orphans and low-income people in Bogor.

Qatar Charity has provided medical and other aid to many countries to help them fight the battle against the coronavirus pandemic.

Qatar Charity has inked two grant agreements with UNICEF for a total of 2$mn to provide water, sanitation and hygiene services for Syrian refugees in Jordan. A 1.5$mn agreement with UNHCR was signed to provide emergency assistance to Syrian refugees throughout Lebanon.

Education

Qatar Charity called on people to support its educational projects within and outside Qatar to enable more than 5,000 children to return to school.

It also works on establishing, furnishing, and repairing educational institutions, training teachers, and providing school bags, textbooks, and tuition fees to ensure quality education for all.

The value of educational projects exceeded 64 million Qatari riyals between 2019 and 2020, benefiting 765,000 people from several countries such as Syria, Somalia, Palestine, and others.

Water

As Qatar Charity believes that water is essential to life, it gives significant attention to the water and sanitation in draught-hit areas. It has implemented more than 50,000 water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) projects over the past two decades to provide safe water and sanitation facilities for more than 6 million people in more than 44 countries across the globe.  In Somalia, Qatar Charity drilled 163 artesian wells in the drought-hit areas during 2019, benefiting more than 446,000 affected people in the country.

International Partnerships

The cooperation and partnership agreements signed in 2019 between Qatar Charity, international humanitarian organizations, and the United Nations agencies amounted to more than 60 million Qatari riyals. The projects funded by Qatar Charity were valued at 44,296,816 Qatari riyals, while the projects implemented by Qatar Charity, with the funding from international organizations were estimated at more than 16 Qatari million riyals.

Qatar Charity’s cooperation with UN and international organizations started in 1997, and it enhanced this collaboration by signing 77 cooperation agreements in many fields over the past 22 years, with a total value exceeding 76 million US dollars.

Qatar Charity has been in consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) since 1997, while it has been enjoying observer membership of the International Organization For Migration (IOM). It was also selected as an associate member of the Department of Global Communications (DGC) in 2019, in addition to becoming a member of Start Network in 2017.

Orphan Care

Qatar Charity sponsors more than 179,000 persons under “Rofaqa”, an orphan care initiative.  Qatar Charity has built many qualitative orphan care centers in Bangladesh and constructed model cities for orphans like Sheikha Aisha bint Hamad bin Abdullah Al-Attiyah Model Orphans City in Sudan.

Income-Generating Projects

Qatar Charity continues to implement income-generating projects for the benefit of the mothers of orphans and poor families, in addition to training them to run such projects.

Sudanese humanitarian bodies applaud Qatar Charity for economic empowerment projects, as it has recently delivered baking ovens and necessary apparatus to women from female-headed and poor households and the families of orphans to help them live a dignified life.

 

 

Appreciations

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has included the ‘Sport for Peace and Development in Darfur’ initiative, which was launched by the Qatar Fund Development (QFFD), Qatar Charity (QC), and Save the Dream of the International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS), as a successful model for countering extremism in its technical guide on ‘Preventing Extremism through Sports’.

Jordanian Prime Minister Dr Omar al-Razzaz has praised the contributions that Qatar Charity (QC) made in support of the kingdom’s efforts in fighting the Covid19- pandemic.

Qatar Charity (QC) won the Orphan Care Excellence Award (Kafel) for the current year 2020, from the Regional CSR Network in co-operation with regional and international organizations and bodies.
