The Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs has called on employers to open bank accounts for domestic workers in Qatar. 

The ministry’s call comes the Qatar Central Bank issued a circular towards ensuring banking accounts and services for domestic workers and complements Qatar’s efforts to provide banking services to all segments of the society.

The ministry said there is no minimum deposit required or service charge applicable when bank accounts are opened for domestic workers.

The ministry also called on employers to help domestic workers understand the importance of bank accounts and banking services.

Having an account in a bank enables the workers to receive their salaries electronically and complements the wage protection system developed by the Qatar Central Bank. It also enables workers to send money home electronically, use the cards for purchases and make withdrawals from ATMs.

Banks are keen to provide these electronic services in safe and secure ways to protect customers' data and money, the ministry said.
