Qatar National Library marks 'National Sports Day' with a series of events this February

With the National Sports Day dawning on us soon, on the second Tuesday of the month of February, Qatar National Library (QNL), has prepared a line-up of sports-focused events — either virtual or in-person for the entire month. These events are designed to cater to the different types of people and their interests. 

The series of events starts on Tuesday, February the 2nd, with the “Childrens Linguistic Development” lecture focusing on the childcare and early learning, covering topics such as when to expect the kids to speak, and the reasons for speech delay. The lecture will be delivered by Eman Darwish online.

On the same day, another lecture will be delivered online “2021 Global Economic Outlook” by Agathe Demarais, Global Forecasting Director at the Economist Intelligence Unit. The Webinar will cover topics such as business, economic and political development around the world during the global pandemic. 

On Wednesday, February the 4th, a lecture focusing on the current world state will be held “Human Development in Post-COVID Era”. It is held in partnership with the Arab Youth Climate Movement Qatar, the UNDP, and the Embassy of Sweden in Qatar. The Lecture will be led by a lead author of the UNDP's "Human Development Report 2020". Expert views on the report and how the pandemic situation has shed light on the structural inequalities and challenges that communities face around the world. 

On Sunday, February the 7th, another online session focusing on Down Syndrom and Healthy Diet will take place. In which parents will be trained on how to prevent weight gain in the case if their children are suffering from the syndrome. 

And on the following day, Monday, February the 8th, a three-part Public Speaking and Argumentation online workshop will be held. In which students will learn good public speaking and argumentative skills. 

On the second Tuesday of the month, 9th, sports events will kick off with the Library’s first Sports Day Chess Tournament, where contestants will be able to challenge family and friends online. 

On Wednesday, February the 17th, an online session “Past and Future Asian Games in Qatar: Creativity Without Limitation" will take place focusing on the developments made to solidify Qatar’s position as the Asian Sports Capital for 2030. 

On Thursday, February the 18th, the event “Elegant Simplicity in the Age of Excess" led by Satish Kumar, a veteran environmentalist is expected to attract a diverse group of attendees. During the event, Kumar will be talking about his journey of living a frugal lifestyle and explore how consumerism drives the pursuit of happiness in much of the world. He also covers two topics from his book ‘Elegant Simplicity’, responsible consumption and sustainable development.

The following week, on Wednesday, February the 24th, "Sports from the World to Qatar." The lecture will take place. The attendees will dive into the history of sports around the world, and get a special insight on how they themselves managed to influence the trajectory of the evolution of sports in Qatar. 

 

Finally, on the last day of the month, Sunday, Dr. Mostafa El Toubi, Head of the Research Team on Morrocan Manuscript Heritage at the Faculty of Arts and Human Sciences at Ibn Zahr University in Morroco will hold a special lecture titled “Marginal Texts and New Prospects in Studying Manuscripts” focusing on manuscript heritage around the world. He will examine marginalia or apostils in manuscripts to help open up new prospects for many research fields and learn more about people's habits, behaviours, transactions, beliefs, mindsets, ideas, and money exchanges.
