The State of Qatar reiterated its commitment to providing political support for the peace process and continuing to support negotiations and constructive dialogue between all Afghan parties to reach a political solution that guarantees an end to the war in the country, achieves national reconciliation and meets the aspirations of the brotherly Afghan people for security, stability, peace, prosperity and building a state of law and institutions.
The State of Qatar also renewed its call for the international community and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to continue providing the necessary support and technical assistance in line with the needs of the Afghan government to enhance its capabilities to face challenges, especially in light of the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This came in the speech of the State of Qatar delivered by Second Secretary at the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva Mohammed Abdullah Al Buainain during the public debate at the Human Rights Council at its 46th session under the 10th item of the council's agenda.
Al Buainain reiterated the State of Qatar's praise of the efforts of the OHCHR, which it exerts in providing technical assistance and helping countries to build and develop their capabilities in the field of human rights, and affirmed the State's interest in supporting the Office's efforts to fulfill its mandate in this regard optimally.
He said that providing technical assistance and capacity-building to states in the field of human rights, according to their needs and priorities, and in consultation with them, remains the best option to support their efforts to fulfill their obligations in this regard, as substantive dialogue and constructive cooperation would lead to immediate and long-term results that contribute to the further consolidation, protection and promotion of human rights.
