The State of Qatar has renewed its commitment to continue efforts aimed at enhancing the role of women in building peace and security, and respecting and promoting all their rights.

This came in the speech of the State of Qatar delivered by the third secretary of the permanent delegation of the State of Qatar to the United Nations office in Geneva Abdullah Ali Behzad, during the interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights in the context of combating terrorism at the 46th session of the Human Rights Council.

He said that Qatar would like to emphasize that terrorism and violent extremism have a destructive impact on the enjoyment of human rights, and in return, the violation of human rights contributes to providing an appropriate environment for their spread. Therefore, all efforts to combat these two phenomena should be in line with international human rights standards.

He added that Qatar shares the concern expressed by the Special Rapporteur about the targeting of Muslims and Muslim families, the discriminatory and excessive use of counter-terrorism measures against them, and the impact of this on their enjoyment of their rights and their family relations.

He went on saying that Qatar also agrees with Special Rapporteur on the necessity of deporting foreign fighters and their families from conflict areas and refugee camps, returning them to their homelands, and taking appropriate measures regarding them in line with international laws and ensuring their rights and interests.

He also stressed the importance of increasing women's participation in developing and implementing laws and strategies to combat terrorism and violent extremism at all levels, along with her participation is essential to address and reduce conditions conducive to terrorism and violent extremism, as well as her ability to assess the impacts of counter-terrorism and violent extremism policies and practices, particularly on women, girls and the family.
