Qatar News Agency announced today that the State of Qatar offered medical aid to support the victims of the Vamco Typhoon that hit the Republic of the Philippines recently.

The aid was sent today upon the directives of the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. It includes 40 tons of food and non-food products, in addition to camping equipment such as tents, water, sanitation, electricity generators, and rescue boats.

Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) in cooperation with the Amiri Air Force transported the aid through an air bridge to reach the victims.

According to the Director-General of QFFD Khalifa bin Jassem Al Kuwari, said that the aid was sent based on the directives of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, noting that the aid was part of Qatar's continued efforts in aiding friends in the Republic of the Philippines.

Al Kuwari stressed that the State of Qatar moved with urgency to the aid of the victims in the Philippines. He added that the quick engagement of the wise leadership with the disaster reflected the commitment of the State of Qatar to alleviating suffering and enhancing international efforts in the field of emergency aid.

The aid program will be carried out with strategic partners Qatar Charity and Qatar Red Crescent. Qatar Red Crescent, in coordination with the Philippines Red Cross, will ensure the quick delivery of aid needed by the victims of the typhoon. Qatar Charity will focus on food security by providing food baskets

Typhoon Vamco made landfall in the Philippines on Wednesday, November 11. The typhoon, referred to as Ulysses in the Philippines, was equivalent in force to a Category 2 hurricane when it made landfall near Patnanungan, Quezon, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

More than 180,000 people were evacuated from their homes as the typhoon battered the country, hitting many of the same communities that were devastated by Super Typhoon Goni just 10 days before.

After first landfall, the storm continued moving westward, making a second landfall in Luzon.

At least 67 people have died, 21 injured and 12 are missing, making Vamco the country's deadliest storm this year.
