QFFD, QRCS implements projects to build medical capacity in northern Syria

Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), and Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) is jointly working together by funding and implementing a project to build the capacity of health workers in northern Syria, under the QUEST Health 2020 initiative.
Examinations were conducted recently at the Academy of Health Sciences in northern Syria, upon the completion of a training program to build the capacity of local medical professionals, to be qualified to provide specialised health care services for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities.
 
 
The project is inclusive of several components to support the health sector in the norther parts of Syria with qualified medical professionals. The project will also guide and educate new students in three medical specialties: nursing, emergency, and physiotherapy. At present there are 130 students at the academy (including 59 students in the 1st year and 71 in the 2nd year).
The project also focuses on providing adequate training for 20 other graduate physicians under the medical residency program, in cooperation with the Syrian Board of Medical Specialties (SBOMS) in the country.
The training is hosted by eight different university hospitals and training centers and convers 12 medical specialities: gynaecology, pediatrics, neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), ophthalmology, cardiothoracic surgery, general surgery, urology, internal medicine, anesthesiology, and ENT.
There are also 40 professional trainers and supervisors to mentor and guide the 20  physicians under residency programs, which is aimed to be covered by the project for two years.
