Qumra 2021's virtual version is now live; it extends assistance for promising film talent
Qumra, the Doha Film Institute's (DFI) annual talent innovator for Arab cinema, launched its biggest virtual version today, with over 150 industry leaders from 41 countries convening to counsel 48 cinematic projects led by first- and second-time filmmakers.

Elia Suleiman, a Palestinian filmmaker, and DFI's Artistic Advisor said he expects to be influenced by Qumra this year, having spent the previous months focusing on his next film and eagerly anticipating this version.

The Qumra 2021 programme

Qumra 2021 serves as a lively forum for conversation among young and seasoned filmmakers by presenting new insights from emerging filmmakers from the Arab world and beyond. The Qumra 2021 package contains 30 films, 12 shorts, and six series from 21 countries, including five new Qatari features in production. Tutorials, seminars, consultations, and one-on-one meetings are offered for projects in construction, and work-in-progress previews and feedback sessions are offered for projects in post-production. With the addition of VoD and streaming channels, Qumra embraces the script-to-screen path and beyond, enabling filmmakers to pursue traditional and innovative platforms and reach a broader audience.
