SHATIU conducted workshop on translation from Arabic to Urdu

The media team of Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding (SHATIU) organised a workshop on translation from Arabic to Urdu, which was presented by television host and translator Obaid Taher at the Award headquarters. 
The workshop dealt with the elements and conditions of translation of the novel Rose Water by Qatari writer Dr. Noura Faraj.
 
Taher stated that this workshop was directed to the category of graduate students in Indian and Pakistani universities and those interested in translation in general.
In the workshop, he focused on several issues, including translation, its importance, its history, translation sections, and the difference between scientific and literary translation. He touched on the components of a successful translator, the importance of knowledge of the source language and the target language, and the way to choose the right pronunciation in the right place. 
He stressed the importance of the translator, even in this era of digital translation, and why the translator must have knowledge of the general culture, history, and societal customs of the source language and strengthening the translator’s translation skills.
He touched on his experience in translating the novel of the Qatari academic writer Dr. Noura Faraj Rose Water, which has gained popularity in the Indian and Pakistani book market.
